Special Exhibition: ISE Cultural Foundation 30th Anniversary“Embroidery Art of Meiji - The Great Treasure loved by British Royal Family”

"Embroidery of Meiji" is the work, which during Meiji Era Japanese artistic handicrafts were defined as an export industry, and was made for export to the West.
In Japan, there was accumulation of original dyeing technology from the Nara period and during Edo period, a field called “embroidery pictures” was established. By using glossy silk thread, new expression, which is totally different from conventional painting, was developed.
This exhibition presents "Embroidery of Meiji" in Takaoka-shi, Toyama, for the first time in Japan, and introduces 38 works exhibited in the British oldest museum, Ashmolean Museum.
