Calligraphy was originally born in China, and transferred to Japan years ago. It has been developed in Japan in its own style, and shown up as a new expression beyond just writing a character itself in the late 20th century.
The ten calligraphers, members of the Gendosha group, exhibit their works where their spirits are freely expressed, keeping an image of characters but not remaining bound in just writing a character.
Their works provide unique beauty of Japan. Some of trendy Japanese subculture is called as Cool Japan these days. Their way of expression is a real “Cool Japan”.
The exhibition is intended to rediscover a deep relation between two countries and then strengthen mutual understanding through exhibiting their works of calligraphy at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, which is the home of the calligraphy.
Symposium will be held on the opening day at Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University. Speakers from Japan and China express their viewpoints and observations.
